Fields of Ida (2009)

created and performed by Ursula Eagly

The mythological Ida plains exist when the world has been destroyed and must be created anew.  They are both an ending an a beginning.  Like the fabled fields, this piece has many beginnings and endings.  It centers on wide lunges and rotated limbs, violent flicks and boneless falls.  Ursula is her own lighting designer and her own musician.  This is a solo to the extreme.  (25 minutes)

This piece is commissioned by Dance Theater Workshop’s Commissioning and Creative Residency Program with support from the Jerome Foundation, The Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Jerome Robbins Foundation.  This work subsequently toured to Macedonia and Albania.
